The Evaluation Exchange: Scaling Impact

This issue of Harvard Family Research Project's publication The Evaluation Exchange explores the promising practices and challenges associated with taking an enterprise to scale, along with the role that evaluation can and should play in that process. It is the second in our "hard-to-measure" series, which we inaugurated with our Spring 2007 issue on evaluating advocacy. This issue includes perspectives from researchers, leaders, and practitioners in the nonprofit sector, including:

  • Mike Smith, senior counselor to the secretary and director of international affairs at the U.S. Department of Education
  • Peter Frumkin, professor of public affairs and director of the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service at the University of Texas, Austin
  • The Carrera / Children's Aid Society's Adolescent Sexuality and Pregnancy Prevention Program and the expansion of its Integrated School Model
  • Charleston, South Carolina's WINGs program, and its use of data to improve program models prior to the scaling process
  • HFRP hopes that this issue of The Evaluation Exchange contributes to the conversation about scale in the nonprofit sector and, in particular, reminds us of the important role that evaluation can play in its success.
