The European Evaluation Society (EES) and The Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS are coorganizing the fifth global National Evaluation Capacities (NEC) Conference, to be held from 16 to 20 October 2017 in Istanbul, Turkey. The Conference will be co-hosted by the Government of Turkey and UNDP.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development calls for systematic review of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Country-led evaluations constitute a key element in this process, and consequently strengthening national evaluation capacities is more important than ever.
The main theme of the 2017 NEC Conference is People, Planet and Progress in the SDG Era. The Conference will provide a platform for information exchange on lessons, experiences, challenges and progress made since 2015 in establishing and strengthening national evaluation systems. Conference participants will also explore the implications of the SDGs for evaluation practice and national evaluation capacities, and in this light point to new directions for evaluation and national evaluation systems. The Conference will foster networking and partnerships for national evaluation capacity development.
The three-day Conference will open on 18 October 2017 with a programme featuring keynote addresses, panel discussions and vibrant interactive sessions. Pre-conference technical training workshops will be held on 16 and 17 October. More information on the programme and the workshops is available at http://web.undp.org/evaluation/nec2017/.
The 2017 NEC Conference is designed first and foremost to offer opportunities to share experiences and learning amongst government officials from national and sub-national institutions directly and indirectly engaged with evaluation and/or the SDG agenda. As the SDGs are universal, participation from all countries will be encouraged, to facilitate the development of new partnerships in new configurations. UNDP staff engaged in supporting national governments on evaluation, governance and/or the SDG agenda, members of the European Evaluation Society (EES), experts from other networks such as the United Nations Evaluation Group, the Evaluation Coordination Group of the multi-lateral development banks, and OECD-DAC, as well as from professional evaluation associations and other members of the wider global evaluation community will also be invited to the conference.
Participation in the NEC Conference is by invitation only. If you would like to express interest in attending the conference, please send an email to email@example.com, and indicate if you are a member of the EES.
