UNESCO has established several Category 2 centres (C2C) in the field of Natural Sciences. These centres serve in their fields of specialization as international or regional centres and pools of expertise to provide services and technical assistance to Member States, cooperation partners and internally to the network of UNESCO field offices. In this context, the ecological -related Category 2 centres (WC2C) are expected to contribute directly to attaining the strategic objectives and programmatic priorities of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme.

Rwanda submitted to UNESCO a proposal for the Center of Excellence in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management (called as CoEB here after) housed within the University of Rwanda to become a Category 2 Center under the auspices of UNESCO and within the MAB Programme.

UNESCO is undertaking a feasibility study to assess if the proposed CoEB meets the requirements of the “Strategy for Category 2 Institutes and Centres under the auspices of UNESCO” adopted by the general Conference in 2019.

NESCO Sciences Sector is hiring two evaluation consultants (one international and one local) to assess the CoEB proposal. The assignment is most likely entirely home-based for the international consultant while it will entitle in country-site visits for the local consultant depending on the progression of the pandemic and related safety conditions. The assignment will not exceed 21 days (per consultant) and will take place in May and June 2021.

You will find attached the draft Terms of References of the assignment.
