Description:
The event will spotlight the Youth in Evaluation standards and make a case for its uptake and use among various stakeholders, while providing valuable practical lessons from UNFPA experience.

In May 2022, the Youth in Evaluation initiative, under the auspices of the Eval4Action campaign, unveiled the manifesto for meaningful engagement of youth in evaluation. To deliver the manifesto objectives, in 2023 Eval4Action launched the Youth in Evaluation standards aimed at bolstering meaningful engagement and partnerships with youth in evaluation. These standards function as a practical guide for diverse stakeholders, outlining steps to translate the manifesto commitments into action. Tailored standards were meticulously crafted through multi-stakeholder and intergenerational consultations, catering to specific target groups, including international agencies, governments, VOPEs, academia, youth organizations, and the private sector.

As part of its institutional commitment to youth engagement in evaluation, UNFPA Evaluation Office has documented insights and lessons learned from the innovative engagement of young people in the formative evaluation of UNFPA support to adolescents and youth. The evaluation featured a pioneering Youth Steering Committee that co-managed the evaluation with senior professionals. The lessons from this experience have yielded ideas to meet and often surpass the requirements of the Youth in Evaluation standards. The lessons in youth engagement surfacing from this evaluation’s experience have been captured in a film that will be premiered at this event.
