The TWG 6 methods and designs group is organizing a series of webinars on the topic of AI. This series will begin with a webinar featuring Dr. Susanne Friese on December 10 (1-3 pm CET).

EES TWG 6 Webinar on December 10, 2025, 1-3pm (MEZ)

Target audience : the members of TWG6.

Speaker: Dr. Susanne Friese

This webinar is for people who want to carry out qualitative evaluation studies and use AI in a thoughtful and responsible way. Many already work with AI tools and chatbots but soon run into limits. It is often unclear why results are strong in some cases and weak or unreliable in others. This session offers clarity.

We begin with key conditions that guide the use of AI in evaluation. Topics include data protection, bias, and quality criteria. We then follow the research process step by step. During planning, we look at what must be addressed in consent procedures. We continue with a short look at data collection, such as interview guides and AI supported interviews.

The central focus is on qualitative data analysis. The approach CA to the power of AI is introduced and demonstrated with an example using QInsights. This framework shows how AI can support careful interpretation without reducing the analytical standard.

Short discussion blocks are built in throughout. Participants will leave with a grounded understanding of how AI can be used in qualitative evaluation to strengthen analysis while keeping risks in view.

Bio Dr Susanne Friese

Dr Susanne Friese is an expert in qualitative methods and computer-aided qualitative data analysis. She works internationally in research, teaching and consulting. She is the author of extensive didactic materials and has made a significant contribution to qualitative research. These include books, numerous book chapters and specialist articles in recognised scientific journals.

Her current work focuses on the use of AI in qualitative research. It imparts knowledge about this in courses and training courses, including an online course at the PME Campus. In doing so, it shows how AI is used in planning, data collection and analysis in such a way that scientific quality and transparency are maintained. One focus is on dialogic working methods, in which AI and researchers interpret together.

She regularly speaks at international conferences and conducts workshops for research teams in various fields of application. She has also founded a company that is developing an AI-powered platform for qualitative analysis. The aim is a responsible and comprehensible approach to generative AI in real research projects.

Dr. Friese’s profile combines methodological rigor with practical application and provides orientation in a phase of rapid technological change.
