Salasan Consulting Inc is seeking a Caribbean-based technical specialist to support a final evaluation of a large, 5-country agriculture sector project. Prospective candidates MUST be based in either Suriname, Guyana, Jamaica, Dominca or St Lucia.
The successful candidate will possess:
- An advanced degree in economics, agriculture economics, rural development, and/or development studies
- Minimum of 5 years of agriculture-related evaluation or research (not monitoring) experience with strong understanding of qualitative data collection processes, techniques and products; both virtual and in-person
- Strong organizational skills with experience in evaluation planning and logistics
- Experience evaluating agri-related gender equity and social inclusion programming is a plus
- Excellent written and spoken English
As part of a four-member team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conduct a literature review of relevant documentation, including project reports, monitoring data, and secondary sources related to climate-resilient agriculture and inclusive market systems in the Caribbean context
- Contribute to evaluation work planning, including supporting the development of a sampling strategy, data collection tools, and field procedures
- Serve as a cultural and contextual resource for the evaluation team, providing ongoing guidance on country- and community-level nuances – including gender and youth dynamics, stakeholder relationships, and cultural considerations – to ensure the evaluation approach and tools are contextually grounded and appropriate.
- Collect qualitative data through key informant interviews and focus group discussions with relevant stakeholders, including market actors (women and youth) in agricultural market systems
- Perform qualitative data cleaning, coding, and analysis, ensuring findings are disaggregated by sex and age where applicable
- Contribute to the drafting of the evaluation report, including translating findings into clear, evidence-based conclusions and recommendations
