One of the most common mistakes I see in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) practice is this:
We spend too much time tracking activities (number of workshops held, participants trained, meetings organised) and too little time measuring the actual change those activities create.

Donor money is not just to conduct workshops. It is what happens after the workshop that counts. Activity tracking  only shows you how busy you are. It does not prove whether your work is making a difference.

Here’s a simple exercise you can start today to help you measure results:

  • For every activity you record, ask: “So what?”
  • Then identify what outcome you expect that activity to contribute to.
    • You conducted a workshop,  so what?
    • Skills  increased. So what?
    • Persons qualify for better paying jobs. So what?
    • The  person rises out of poverty. So what?
    • The community is developed. Now this is impact.

This simple exercise reframes your MEL from counting inputs to showing outcomes.

If you’d like to go deeper, enrolment is now open for the Clarity-to-Impact™ Programme, beginning 15 October 2025.

👉 Who is it for?

  • Professionals who are reporting on endless activities but struggle to show impact.
  • Practitioners who want to develop or strengthen their Theory of Change, measure “soft” outcomes like empowerment or confidence, and communicate results donors actually care about.
  • Teams or individuals ready to build MEL systems that are credible, inclusive, and practical.

👉 What’s covered?
Over 6 months, we’ll move through 5 transformation stages:

  1. Reframe activities into outcomes (So What?™ Exercise)
  2. Build and refine your Theory of Change
  3. Select indicators for soft outcomes
  4. Turn data into reflection, learning, and adaptive decisions
  5. Integrate everything into a working MEL framework with recognition as a Clarity-to-Impact™ Practitioner

Because we want to keep the group intimate and ensure everyone gets attention, places are limited. Once the seats are filled, enrolment will close.

The October cohort begins 15 October 2025. If you’re ready to stop being “busy” and start showing impact, this is your invitation.
