The Evaluators’ Institute (TEI)
This spring, Peter York, will return to TEI to teach Introduction to Machine Learning for Evaluators.
Pete has spent his career focusing on leveraging big data to create precision analytic models, and has worked as a consultant and researcher for over 20 years. He is currently the Principal Chief Data Scientist at BCT Partners and is the author of Funders Guide to Evaluation: Leveraging Evaluation to Improve Nonprofit Effectiveness.
There is a growing demand from public and private policymakers and funders to apply big data science and machine learning for evaluation. When applied correctly, machine learning algorithms can significantly reduce the cost and time of conducting evaluations, including producing on-demand quasi-experimental actionable evidence. Participants in this newly extended three-day course will learn the fundamentals of integrating the theory, methods, and machine learning algorithms of big data science into their evaluation approach. This course is best suited for evaluators with experience conducting quantitative and mixed-methods evaluations.
