Brief Outline of the Project:
Ongoing debates at the EU regulatory level aim at reducing or prohibiting the use of Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) on food products. Such regulations would impact conventional banana production, very likely to the detriment of banana producers. Therefore, Fairtrade aims to prepare producers for this potential shift and, more broadly, to support their transition toward more agroecologically farming practices. This study is intended to provide an overview of already applied agroecological approaches in conventional Fairtrade banana production, and develop scalable recommendations specifically aimed at reducing dependency on HHPs.
