Why choose this course?

A Theory of Change (ToC) can be used in a number of ways; as an innovative tool to help strategic planning, an action-learning process to help better understand how social change happens, and a way to creatively illustrate what your organisation aims to achieve. Our ToC training is an opportunity for you to explore how to facilitate multi-stakeholder processes and to develop a comprehensive ToC. We reflect on the latest thinking around Theory of Change, and how to use a ToC for Strategic Planning. No prior knowledge in ToC is needed.

Through a mix of practical activities, theory and case examples, you will learn how to:

  • Critically reflect on your assumptions, group dynamics, and their effect on influencing change
  • Understand how Theory of Change underpins Strategic Planning
  • Apply participatory methodologies to foster ownership and representation through the planning process
  • See theory in practice: use of interesting case studies within the teaching of the course
  • Forward-thinking tools: develop ToC tools for your workplace
  • Networking: engage in networking and peer-learning with fellow development workers
  • Interactive learning: attend 6 guided 90-minute webinar Personalised mentoring: a follow-up session with our facilitators at least 3 months after completing the course
  • Flexibility: programme takes around 30-40 hours to complete which is spread over 8 weeks to fit into your schedule – to maximise your full learning experience we recommend 8 – 10 hours a week is set aside for your learning.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion from IMA, as well as an HPass badge.

We primarily work with government ministries, INGOs, NGOs, research institutes, UN agencies and the private sector to develop capacity and create positive behaviour change.
