Commissioning a synthesis review on the topic of sustainability. The purpose of this review is to understand how sustainability is being approached in our evaluative work and to identify key learning about the extent to which our programmes are sustainable. The review will consider the robustness of the evidence we have for drawing conclusions about this and make recommendations to strengthen the way sustainability is assessed in our evaluations. While the detailed methodology is to be agreed with the contracted consultant, the synthesis will be mostly based on the analysis of data from approximately 25 Sightsavers evaluations (commissioned externally or conducted in-house) between 2019 and 2023, along with their corresponding management response and action plan documents. The primary output will be a synthesis report, and the secondary output will be a set of short associated materials highlighting findings and recommendations for key audiences.
The anticipated level of engagement is approximately 20 – 25 working days between July and September 2023, and the work can be conducted remotely from any suitable location. Sightsavers will welcome expressions of interest from individual consultants or small teams with experience of conducting evaluation and synthesis work including consideration of sustainability in a development context.
